After all of the time, preparation and money…the unthinkable has happened. Your application has been refused by IRCC. However, this does not necessarily mean that it’s “game over” for Canada. The most successful applicants take this as a lesson and then they RE-APPLY. Here is my approach:
- Read the refusal letter carefully. Many clients come to me without having taken the time to read through the refusal letter. In most cases, the refusal grounds are stated in the letter.
- Request the officer’s notes. Under Canada’s Access to Information and Privacy act, you can request the notes of the reviewing officer, which list the exact grounds for the refusal. I would strongly recommend that this be done by someone that is INSIDE Canada or you may hire an immigration professional to do this for you. There is a $5 fee to request the notes.
- File again. In your next filing, be certain that you have addressed ALL potential deficiencies. I recommend that you invest in hiring a legal professional (lawyer or RCIC) to prepare your next application OR to review your application before you submit it again.
